NEWS: North Hykeham Heritage Trail Guide published
A heritage trail for North Hykeham has been published this month as part of the Ridges & Furrows Heritage project.
The North Hykeham Heritage Trail, written by Ridges & Furrows historian Dave Reeves, describes a circular route around North Hykeham starting at One NK/ Terry O’ Toole Theatre, and providing interesting facts and historical information about the town.
The trail guide is the culmination of the Ridges & Furrows Heritage Trail project in the town, which began with a residency with writer Hannah Nicklin in 2015. Hannah produced a piece of listening theatre inspired by North Hykeham, designed to be listened to on the Village Green.
Following this, in autumn/winter 2016, artsNK and Terry O’Toole Theatre worked with schools and communities in the town to research its heritage, following its story from old village to new town through the themes of earth water, wind and fire. The end result of this project was a celebratory event ‘The Winter Haecca’ which took place on the Village Green in December 2016.
The new trail guide is available from various locations in North Hykeham, including the Town Council offices, North Hykeham library, and One NK centre. Follow this link to download a pdf of the Hykeham Trail Guide.
Heritage Trail guides for the villages of Welbourn and Waddington are also available.
